Third/Sister Lovers

The Teenage Superstars documentary referenced Alex Chilton's involvement with the Scottish music scene including his collaboaration with Teenage Fanclub.

On the back of this I looked out my CD of #1 Record/Radio City by Big Star for a very enjoyable listen. Not for the first time I though that I really should get my hands on the third album Third/Sister Lovers. Imagine my surprise, therefore, when I went to put the CD back on the shelves and there it was right beside the gap waiting to be re-filled.

I knew that I kept meaning to buy it but had completely forgotten that I already had. I can't remember doing so but think that it may well be a Discogs job. It came as a pleasant surprise.

Sometimes I think I should listen to my records more or maybe just get my memory tested. Anyone else want to own up to a similar thing happening to them?

  1. I twice bought an album I already owned... happens to all of us I guess.

    1. Likewise. I bought the Disco Tex & His Sex-o-Lettes album twice, didn't regret it either time.

  2. I think all your readers have bought a record they already own AND whilst browsing their own shelves found a record they did not know they had. Could be a series here, eg a la Gerard Kenny "So good I nought It Twice" or "I'd forgotten I had it"

    1. Have you just outed yourself as a Gerard Kenny fan?

    4. unfortunately Ernie that song is more memorable than many I have acquired in the last twenty years, even though I'd rather that wasn't the case. I can add a Paul Nicholas song that list, the New Seekers, Middle Of The Road, Pilot......

  3. Done both- bought a record I already own by accident. Found records I didn't know I had. Also had a habit of buying records in charity shops that I already owned, singles especially, to save them from landfill or being kicked under the rack accidentally- hence I have several copies of Rip It Up on 7", several Blue Monday's too (this is when vinyl in charity shops was cheap as chips).

  4. I've got a whole cube of doublers, that I have either intentionally bought when found really cheap or ones I have forgotten I had, 3 copies of Stone Roses debut, I knew I had two but not the third.
I also like George have bought things deliberately to have a spare copy as they are that good, more than I would like to admit.

  5. It's an occupational hazard. A few yrs back I was in the habit of heaving a 20 + page excel print-out of my CD list around with me when flicking through the racks to avoid doubles. Thumbing through the pages spoiled the enjoyment and was frankly embarrassing when fellow customers stopped to stare at what I was doing so I soon put a stop to that. What's a few quid here and there anyway. Duplicates would always find a good home.
