My New Favourite Band

I have a new favourite band.

The credit for this goes to Brian or the blame if my bank manager is on the phone.

On his albums of the year list he described The Scenic Route by Dropkick  thus :They're a little bit country (early Jayhawks) and a little bit rock 'n' roll (Teenage Fanclub around 'Songs From Northern Britain') and have somehow improved upon 2018 album 'Longwave...' and that's saying a lot.

That was enough for me to head to their bandcamp page to order  a copy which very  impressively reached me around 48 hours later. Brian's description is absolutely spot on.

Dropkick are a band from Edinburgh with Andrew Taylor as the singer and songwriter. Yet again Brian has drawn a Scottish act that I was totally oblivious of to my attention.

Brian kindly shared a link to the previously reference Longwave and I'm happy to report that it is of a similar quality.

The bandcamp link is above. You know what to do

Dropkick - Faraway Places

  2. Thanks for the kind words, CC. Andrew Taylor is a really talented guy. If you haven't already, you might want to check out his other band, the Boys With the Perpetual Nervousness. That's a duo with Gonzalo Marcos from Madrid. Their second long player comes out next month. Kind of like Dropkick but with a little more jangle. You may have heard the first one because it was on Pretty Olivia. The new one is on the same label as Dropkick, Bobo Integral. Cheers.

  3. Bloody hell Brian. I've hesitated from going back to check your albums of the year list, knowing that when I did, it would probably end up costing me a pretty penny. And now, somehow, you've managed to get to me via Charity Chic's page - I don't know how you do it.
'The Scenic Route' is absolutely terrific and I'd already shelled out for the last copy of the LP before I'd finished listening to it over on Bandcamp. While I was there I also pre-ordered a copy of the forthcoming 'Best of...' double LP. If my bank manager gives me any grief, I'm pointing him in your direction.

    1. Hey Swede. This is making my day. Interested in that best of myself. I don't own anything from Dropkick's early days when they self released albums and then signed to Sound Asleep out of Sweden for a spell (tongue twister). If you do get to my albums list, you will recognize No. 8 as being all due to you.
