The song Not by Brooklyn band Big Thief was one of my favourites from 2019.
I would like to say that my finger was on the pulse and that I was aware that it was from their 4th album Two Hands on 4AD and that I had been following them since their 2016 debut Masterpiece but sadly that's not the case.
Rather they came to my attention via a Mojo compilation Ragged Glories featuring a lot of thrashy guitars to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Neil Young and Crazy Horse.
It was enough to make me track down a copy of Two Hands and I must admit that I rather enjoyed it.It appears to have averaged around 8/10 when scored by the critics which is probably just about right.
The lead singer is the rather wonderful Adrienne Lenker who is joined by Buck Meek (guitar), Max Oleartchik (bass) and James Krichenia on drums. A couple of names there that would score well in Scrabble.
Any excuse to listen to Not again.
New to me and I enjoyed them, Not especially.
ReplyDeleteMeek just released a solo record that seems interesting...
