A Good Idea
Friday's reference to Sugar had me reaching for Copper Blue to play in the car on the commute to and from work.
It's been a wee while since I last listened to it. Probably too long in fact as it is a terrific record and a splendid racket altogether.
George and I saw them in the Barrowlands and my ears were ringing for a week.
This got me thinking and I came up with a good idea. Noisy Music Monday!
Just the thing to kick start the week and ensuring that you are all wide awake, alert, bushy tailed and ready to go for the week at the coalface.
It is only fitting that Sugar kick us off.

"George and I saw them " are you sure? I have no memory of that at all.

DeleteThink you were in Edinburgh at the time. We met some boy you knew from the Uni
Was heavy drinking involved?
DeleteNot if I can remember it!

I've probably told this one before, but on leaving a Sugar gig in 1992, my mate raved about their encore cover of 'Armenia City In The Sky', which I had missed completely. The accumulated cacophony was so immense by that stage that all subtlety, nuance, tune and lyrics had merged to form the very dictionary definition of a bloody great wall of sound. How my mate managed to pick the song out of the aural assault I've no idea.
ReplyDeleteThe scary thing is that Sugar was only the second loudest gig I ever attended. Hüsker Dü at the Electric Ballroom in 1986 were so thunderous that I was physically picked up and carried backwards by the resonance, eventually hitting the wall at the rear of the venue.
Husker Du will almost certainly feature in this series
DeleteWhat about the Be-Good Tanyas?
DeleteUnlikely
DeleteBloody love A Good Idea. It sounds like the Pixies doing Husker Du, which is no bad thing in my book. You've now also got me reaching for Copper Blue for a much overdue listen.
