Holidays

We are off on holiday so nothing to see here for a few days.
It gives me an opportunity to relax, recharge the batteries and hopefully pick up some new purchases to subject you to upon our return.
As the above map suggests we are not in fact off to Cambodia but rather to Portpatrick in Galloway in the South West of Scotland.
As far as I am aware I have no songs about Portpatrick or Galloway  and this was the first holiday related song which sprang to mind.

Dead Kennedys -Holiday in Cambodia

  1. There's 'Holiday in the Sun', but I don't suppose that's very appropriate for Scotland... ;-) Have a good one!

  2. Just Googled Portpatrick and it looks lovely. I desperately want to spend some time walking in Scotland (and Wales come to that) before my legs give out on me. Have a great time CC.

  3. Have a great time and enjoy your break

  4. Enjoy the break CC - A fine part of the world (and in my humble opinion, Spring in Scotland is preferable to the heat of Cambodia).

  5. Will you be having a day trip to Stranraer?

  6. Couldn't find any lyrics relating to Portpatrick, but Galloway threw up Steeleye Span's Lowlands of Holland...

"Oh hold your tongue my daughter dear, be still and be content.
There's men enough in Galloway; you need not sore lament."

And better yet: Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere by Carter USM (something about Galloway's throat expectorant... but that might be a brand rather than the place).

Anyway, enjoy your break! I am, of course, envious.

  7. Have a great time. Love your unlikely choice of song!

  8. The Kinks' Holiday never disappoints https://tinyurl.com/y9eajjuz although to quote "sometimes I think that old sun ain't never coming out" I hope you have better luck. I'm going to be up in Inverness for a railways type holiday fairly soon so any recommendations you might have on decent CD/record shops in that vicinity would be appreciated.

    1. There is a record shop on the Market Brae steps just off the High Street. Vinyl mainly.

  9. Oh come now. What about popping round for a pint to the Ellangowan Hotel in Creetown where this scene was filmed?

On your way round from Creetown stop in at the old church at Anwoth where this poptastic scene was filmed.

The window Britt Ekland leans out of to chat to Christopher Lee is just across the road from the Masonic Arms in Gatehouse of Fleet.

If you get as far round as Gatehouse pop on the extra few miles to Kirkudbright and have a fish supper from Polar Bites (Beaconsfield Place). Legendary, vast range, incredibly fresh and you can even sit in and BYOB. Have a great holiday!

    1. Ha ha even I can see that popping round for a pint down from Inverness would be a mission and a half especially on a strict timetable. Some other time may be but thanks anyway.
