I recently picked up Mini by the Wedding Present recently in a charity shop in the Perthshire town of Aucherarder.
From January 1996 on the Cooking Vinyl label Mini is a 6 track EP weighing in at 19 minutes and 20 seconds.
In the Wedding Present discography it sit's between 1994's Watusi album and 1996's Saturnalia.
The boy Gedge is joined by Darren Belk on bass and Simon Smith on drums with Jayne Lockey providing additional vocals.
Allmusic gives it 3 out of 5 which is probably just about right. For me there is no particular stand out track so I have gone fairly randomly with track 3 Go, Man, Go and track 6 Sports Car.

My standout track from this one is Convertible. That was mainly because it was the first time a prominent female vocal was heard on a Weddoes track so it was quite different at the time. My old band also sampled the car sound at the start of Drive for one of our own recordings!
ReplyDeleteNice pick up, C. When the band’s catalog was reissued four years ago, I really cleaned up as everyone traded in their old copies. I filled in all of my gaps for next to nothing. I love when that happens.
