Burnt Offerings 19

Suzi Quatro is now the proud owner of a bus pass. This was not the case in the early 70's when she was the only female standard bearer of the Glam Rock movement and also the focus of many a teenage crush.
She would have featured before had my album not been so badly scratched.
Daytona Demon was a top 20 single from 1973

Suzi Quatro - Daytona Demon

The Runaways were another band responsible for many a teenage crush albeit a few years later.
Featuring Joan Jett on guitar and vocals  they were produced by Kim Fowley
From 1976 Cherry Bomb was absolutely huge in Japan but didn't really do much in the UKor their native US.It also did very well in Scandinavia and the Ukraine clearly areas of good taste who like their music rocky and raunchy.

The Runaways - Cherry Bomb

From Claremount, California The Mountain Goats are one of those many bands that I've heard about but not really heard much of their music. Based on the couple of songs which pop up on the Burnt Offerings series further exploration is clearly required.
Sort of Americana meets Belle & Sebastian. No bad thing

The Mountain Goats - Woke Up New

More assorted nonsense next Wednesday

  1. I once had ideas of putting a Suzi Quatro ICA together, but thought everyone would laugh. I was quite the fan in my younger days. Of The Runaways too.

  5. I love Joan Jett. Suzi less so but I can see the appeal. Do the ICA Swede.

  6. Never thought I'd see a Quatro/Runaways/Mountain Goats post! All good tunes.

The Mountain Goats are really worth a look and listen, based on my limited familiarity with readers of this and confederate blogs. John Darnielle is an amazing lyricist and author -- his first novel was nominated for a National Book Award (big deal over here in the US) and his second just came out a couple of months ago.

  7. Suzi Quatro has a bus pass - Of course she has but just sounds all wrong.

For once I have heard of The Mountain Goats as they sang about Maine which as you know was relevant to me a few weeks ago!

  8. I own a few Mountain Goats albums so imagine my incredulity when you likened 'em to B&S but....well....dammit....how right you are (at least on the evidence of this track). Incidentally MGs new album gets a more than solid 4 star write up in todays Guardian Music review

  9. Really interesting mix of artists here. Suzi Q and The Mountain Goats in one posting? I reckon that's got to be a first anywhere in the world of blogging....

Sad to say but Daytona Demon, as much as my 10 year old ears loved it, has dated very very badly
