Springsteen Covered - Mansion on the Hill
Close but no cigar last week. The Mavericks gave Bruce a run for his money with All that Heaven Will Allow before finally succumbing. He wears you down does Bruce.
So Springsteen marches on - there is no stopping him. It's now The Boss 7 The Rest 2
Time then to field another big gun to challenge the theory that none of the originals on Nebraska can be bettered.
Here is the great Emmylou Harris and the Nash Ramblers with Mansion on the Hill from the1992 live recording from the Grand Old Opry, Ryman Auditorium in Nashville to debunk that theory.
I won't let any of the bloggers leave Glasgow until they agree with me.
Those of you at a safe distance may choose to differ.

Nice enough...But I suspect you'd have had more support if you'd picked the Billy Bragg version. I'd still have gone with the original.
ReplyDeleteListened to Emmylou first and thought it had to be the winner, before I even listened to The Bruce. Having listened to the original I have not changed my mind. EH far far superior, no contest.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly for me it's Bruce this weekend - usually go for the country version if there is one but this time no as so personal to Bruce.
ReplyDeleteThought you might have been having a weekend off!

DeleteMy comment seems to have disappeared so if it comes up twice, sorry!
ReplyDeleteEmmylou is the one for me today, not keen on Bruce's wheezy harmonica!
I vote for Emmylou today, CC. Here's Hank Williams' original though, which I think tops them both. ;-)

Emmylou!!! That 'At The Ryman' has always been one of my favourites
ReplyDeleteThis was just what I needed this Sunday morning and strangely I'm opting for Emmylou. Must be the drink!
