Burn Offerings 13
A veritable mixed bag for you today as we serve up Burnt Offerings 13.
We start with Australia's finest export and one of those superstars known the world over by their fist name.
Here Kylie gives us a live take on a Clash classic - one I should maybe have saved for a future Clash covered series perhaps?
Kylie Minogue - Should I Stay or Should I Go
Kylie is followed (as if anyone could follow Kylie) by an artist who has previously featured on these pages as a Drive- By Trucker. Today Patterson Hood is in solo mode and is Dead Drunk and Naked
His father David was the bassist in the legendary Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section
Patterson Hood - Dead Drunk and Naked
And finally we feature The Polyphonic Spree a choral rock band and wearers of white robes from Dallas fronted by the splendidly named Tim DeLaughter and a band which contains a multitude of members.
One of my few claims to fame is that I once saw them playing live in someone's front garden in Austin (it was a big garden!)
The Polyphonic Spree - Hold Me Now
More assorted nonsense, but probably slightly less eclectic, nest week
But not before I give you the legendary Frank Sidebottom's unique take on a Kylie classic

Kylie sings the Clash, Frank sings Kylie and the Polyphonic Spree sing the Polyphonic Spree. Post of the year anywhere on the intyernet so far this year!
ReplyDeleteGreat fun from a great post. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteFrank Sidebottom - simply the best.
ReplyDeleteGood to heat from you Mr Bear
DeleteHope all is well with you
Big fan of the last two; never heard the Kylie / Clash cover before, so thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteBut... could you really follow your Springsteen series with one about Clash covers? What would George say?
One of my least favourite Clash songs but it would win hands down over Kylie's attempt.
ReplyDeleteIt's taken me a couple of days to summon up the courage to take on Kylie's reading of 'Should I Stay or Should I Go'. Four minutes of my life I'll never get back.
ReplyDeleteGod bless Frank Sidebottom.
Love Kylie but that cover version was a mistake.
ReplyDeleteIs it OK to use this occasion to admit that I never quite 'got' Frank Sidebottom?
A discussion for the forthcoming bloggers convention I feel
DeleteI have to admit I'm with JC on that one...
DeleteIs there anything to 'get' about Frank? Some artists just do stuff that has no inherent cleverness about it. In Frank's case it was just an ordinary honest working class (remember them) thing. Of course, I could be mis-representing him.
ReplyDeleteWhen you have finished with that Bruce Springsteen business you should do Frank Sidebottom covers vs the originals. Frank would win 10-0. You know he would, he really would.
