Off Message

On Monday's featured Rough Trade Country 1 album The Gourds do a cover of Snoop Dogg's Gin and Juice.
Bitches here and hoes there it is so misogynist that it almost sounds like a Donald Trump speech.
Thankfully on this occasion no guns feature.
Makes you long for the old days with the Grand Masters Flash and Melle Mel before the blatant sexism and the obsession with gangstas.

Don't don't do it.

  1. Neither of them sound the least bit dated do they? Remarkable stuff.

  2. Can't believe this was from 33 years ago as still sounds like "new music" to me. A blast of the past and reminds me of student days.

PS - In case you get stats, I sometimes have to d/l to listen to the track depending on which device I'm on but I've nearly cracked most people's sharing sites now.

  3. I'm betting that everyone can remember exactly how they felt the first time they heard these. They just sounded like nothing else I'd heard before, so new, so different. Very vivid. And still great.
