Not in My Name

What a bloody mess!
A referendum called by David Cameron worried that the Tories were losing votes to UKIP has led to the pretty strong possibility that Britain will vote to leave the EU  to become an isolated backwater and economic basket case.
Yet that does not appear to be concerning the politicians taking part in the most mean spirited, vitriolic and down right nasty contest I have witnessed in my lifetime.
Two sides trying to out do each other in the xenophobia, racist and bigotry stakes.
For that is what it appears to be all about.
Getting rid of the immigrants. Yes those people who work in our hospitals and care homes, who pick, cook and serve the food we all consume and who help to keep this country going being vilified by right wing reactionaries.
For what it is worth I think it will be a narrow vote to remain in the EU.*
The worrying thing is that almost half the country will have voted Brexit.
Coupled with the rise of the far right in mainland Europe and Donald Trump the world is a scary place - probably the scariest it has been since 1939.
God help us all.

  1. It's been an extraordinarily unpleasant campaign, fronted by some truly odious people, with the usual elements of our wonderful press doing their bit to ramp up the hatred. I'm really worried that Brexit might snatch it. A few otherwise sane people of my own acquaintance, have been parroting the 'take control back' mantra recently, like hypnotised buffoons - it makes me want to weep. The world is in a shocking state, fuelled by the fear tactics and divisive language of the few with the loudest voices. We need to build bridges, not walls.

  2. If ever there was a case to rid the world of the human race and hand the planet back to mother nature, this so-called "campaign" has been it. A total disgrace from start to finish. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that commonsense will prevail, but I am fearful the loonie Leavers might just nick it. After all, in the words of Voltaire: "Commonsense is not so common."

  9. What in the world. With the Brexit win I don't feel so confident that Trump won't fail. God help us. Perhaps it won't be the poison we put in our water and air, or disease that will kill us...it may be each other. My only hope is the thought that it needs to get bad before it can get better. If that's true then it will even be great because with this & Trump & Isis it's rock bottom. I'm sorry for you Brits.
