The screen door slams
Mary's dress waves
Like a vision she dances across the porch
As the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey that's me and I want you only
Bruce Springsteen has recently been namechecked but this week it is his turn to do the namechecking.
The above is the opening lines of Thunder Road and none other than the Big O is featuring on Mary's radio.
Given the lyrics there can only really be one choice of song.
This is for all you Airdrieonians out there - you know who you are.
More namechecking next week
A recently posted Julian Cope song featured both Barry Manilow and Duran Duran -- hmmm ...
There won't be two more perfect songs in one place, anywhere on the internet today.
ReplyDeleteWhat the Swede said. ^ :)))
ReplyDeleteRoy Orbison. Right up there with Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye for the most beautiful male voices. No? Eddie Kendricks too!
From memory the song begins "only the lonely, the way I feel tonight, only the lonely, this feeling ain't right". A progressive's lament for England on June 24th 2016?
ReplyDeleteNope, can't beat that one.
ReplyDeleteYou know know what, I don't think I'm ever properly going to appreciate Springsteen (it must just be me considering he's a hero to so many) so I'm going to dwell on Roy instead. Only The Lonely is a winsomely bittersweet song, one that that Springsteen could only dream of writing. As always when Orbison's songs are discussed, my 2nd favourite of his always gets little attention so checkout this http://tinyurl.com/pbvuedl
