Covered by Cash -Bridge over Troubled Water

As I type this  it is 5 apiece from JC and NC  last Sunday with their  respective versions of The Mercy Seat.
Spence is prone to a late night post so I may wake up to a winner.
However I am conscious that this one caused some of you a degree of consternation as both versions are so good (there was event an abstention!) Therefore a draw was probably a fair result and the scores remain Cash 4 The Rest 2

This week's may be slightly easier. Johnny ably assisted by Fiona Apple is up against Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel with Bridge Over Troubled Water
The baritone tones of Johnny versus the falsetto of Art.
Although Johnny could recite the phonebook and sound brilliant it seems to my that by the time American IV:The Man Comes Around was released in 2002 his voice was starting to weaken slightly as his health gradually worsened
This week it is Simon & Garfunkel for me on the basis that you can't improve on perfection.

Others, of course, may choose to disagree and I'm sure some will

  2. Don't like either of them. Aretha Franklin's version rules!

  3. Like Gram I'm not really a fan of either, but I'll go for S&G. Johnny should have had a crack at The Sound of Silence instead - that could've been awesome.

  6. I agree with Swede re: Sound of Silence, and I too have never been much of a fan of the song, whoever sang it. But S&G might just scrape it if I was pushed.

  7. Same as everyone else I'm afraid. If Johnny had done 'The Boxer'. on the other hand...

  8. Same here. The version by The Antiquisearchers. Erm, I mean Simon & Garfunkel.
(Sorry, that's lost on anyone who doesn't watch Detectorists!)

  9. As above. Simon and Garfunkel. Its a song I don't much like but anyone else doing seems pretty pointless.

  10. Going with the peanut gallery today. Simon and Garfunkel it is.

  11. I opened these comments expecting everyone to come down on Johnny's side purely on the basis that I thought everybody hated the original. Happy to be (mostly) proven wrong.

  12. No casting vote for me tonight! S&G all the way. BOTW is so ubiquitous that it seems to attract a sort of wearisome 'Meh' from people, me included I'm afraid and yet when I listen to it with a different head on, it is a truly great song - a victim of it's own cliched success. Another thing troubling me is that, in his later years, Johnny was treated rather like a performing bear. Ask an iconic singer from a specific genre to sing classic songs from a different genre. Of course it works some of the time, but as ever with success it just gets milked too often.
