Today we feature a murder of Crows with the musical selections courtesy of Ernie
According to Bird Aware the crow family, or corvids, are intelligent and adaptable birds ,with strong feet and robust bills
Intelligent and adaptable indeed. The one's outside The Crown in Portpatrick are prone to swoop and make off with the sachets of tomato sauce, vinegar and salad cream
Apparently there are four members of the Crow family - rooks, carrion crows, ravens and jackdays. The Portpatrick ones are firmly in the second tranche.
To the music. Ernie kicks off simple with Crow by Cinder Well who it seems is at the vanguard of a different kind of transatlantic folk music revival, one forged amidst the uncertainty of a global pandemic.
He then goes for a twofer Doves & Crows by Bare Bones. There may well be more Doves later on in this series
Next up are the aptly named Birds of Chicago with the Humboldt Crows which as I'm sure you are all aware are named after the German polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer, and proponent of Romantic philosophy and science Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt
For the final offering I'm glad to see something from the Bloodshot stable (or should that be nest?) namely Land Where The Crow Flies Backwards by Roger Knox and the Pine Valley Cosmonauts.
Many thanks for these Ernie
More ortnithological observations next Friday

DeleteThree guest posts this week - are you turning into one of those authors who has their name of the cover but gets other people to do the actual work? The Tom Clancy of music bloggers
ReplyDeleteRumbled!
DeleteWas expecting something by Rodney Crowell ?
ReplyDeleteA very fine selection Ernie. But I would like to add Rory Gallagher' As the crow flies

Some great tunes there, Ernie, particularly the last one. Given our altercation earlier this week, I'm not going to suggest The Black Crows, but I will offer Black Crow by Linda Hoyle.
ReplyDeleteAnd these...
Dan Bern - Crow
Jim Carroll - Crow
Nick Cave - Crow Jane
Somebody else knows Crowsdell? My heart is full! There's only one track you can possibly play........but I'll bide my time!!
ReplyDeleteNo Stone The Crows? And you a Scot! Maggie Bell's band had a moment circa 72/73 but somehow didn't quite 'make it'. Tyro Jimmy McCulloch had a spell with them too
