Mrs CC interupted the football with the sad news that Tina Turner had died at her home in Switzerland at the age of 83 following a long illness.
I wouldn't pretend to have been a fan of her mainstream solo career but you cannot deny that she always put on a good show and gave her all in every song.
I was however a big fan of her earlier R&B numbers with her then husband Ike.The husband and wife duo were once considered as "one of the hottest, most durable, and potentially most explosive of all R&B ensembles" Unfortunately Ike turned out to be a wrong 'un with numerous stories of wife beating, control freakery and drug taking
Tina was well shot of him and it was great to see that she had the strength and talent to pursue a highly successful solo career.
I'm sure that we will be hearing Private Dancer and Simply the Best a lot during the next few days but I will settle for some of the earlier classics.
Rest easy Tina

Great post, CC. Very much the share your feelings about TT’s music, although today’s Dubhed selection realises both your dreams and nightmares in one fell swoop! You might want to skip the first 7 minutes but I did swap The Best for a duet with Aussie gravel gargled Jimmy Barnes. Which is possibly more annoying than the original!
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you included River Deep…what a performance. Expecting to hear Proud Mary a lot in the next few days too. Thanks!
Tina Turner cannot die. That's just wrong.
