Brides of Jesus

Wait a minute -Jesus was married? And even more surprising -Jesus was married - plural.

Sorry to disappoint those of you that have looked out a hat but Brides of Jesus is apparently  a reference to a group of related verses in the Bible comparing the union of a husand and wife to Christ and the church.

Glad we got that sorted. It's just a shame that nobody told the band Brides of Christ who released an album in 2002 called Saints and Sinners. The country rock band Little Feat recorded a song called Brides of Christ which appeared on their eponymous debut album in 1971. It was later covered by The Golden Palominos.

Last week Lydia Loveless alleged that Jesus Was a Wino. This week Chuck Prophet puts our minds at rest by confirming that in actual fact Jesus was a Social Drinker.

Enough of this nonsense. Finally to cleanse your palates I give you the pick of the bunch from The Reverend with Jesus is Waiting. Amen.

  1. The Gospel According to Saint John (Prine) doth state...

"Kids in trouble with the cops from Israel didn't have no home
So he cut his hair and moved to Rome
It was there he met his Irish bride
And they rented a flat on the lower east side of Rome
    Italy that is"

    Furthermore...

"You see, him and the wife wasn't getting along
So he took out his guitar and he wrote a song
Called "The Dove of Love Fell Off the Perch"
But he couldn't get divorced in the Catholic Church"
