Please Be Upstanding For The Reverend

2022 Charity Shop Purchases # 3   Al Green - Call Me

I'm not quite sure how I have reached such a ripe old age without ever having owned a copy of Call Me by Al Green. From 1973 on the Hi label it was his 6th studio album and is widely regarded as his masterpiece.

I picked it up in St Andrews at part of one of those 2 albums on one CD packages along with the follow up Livin' for You also from 1973.
It is acombination of stonewall Soul classics written by Green and the likes of Al Jackson Jr, Willie Mitchell and Teenie Hodges and covers of Country Classics by Willie Nelson and Hank Williams. And for good measure the Reverend throws in Jesus is Waiting as the last track.

Rest assured Livin' For You will feature sooner rather than later. Praise the Lord.

  1. The last track on side 2 of Call Me is one of the greatest pieces of gospel music ever made.
