Some Festive Sunday Soul
We are sticking with yesterday's Mojo Festive Fifteen compilation and pictures of Elves today with three rather splendid soul offerings.
Ain't No Chimneys in the Projects by Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings has been about for a while but makes it's first album appearance (I think) on their recent It's a Holiday Soul Party.
Sharon is followed by Joe Tex in is inimitable style advocating that a woman is not just for Christmas.
Finally Irma Thomas shows of her Gospel roots with a magnificent version of Oh Holy Night

I'm not sure I'll hear a better song today than Joe Tex's I'll Make Every Day Christmas. Unless I decide to play Buying A Book. The link to Irma Thomas gives the Joe Tex song. Not that I'm complaining.

DeleteI think The Dominoes' version is superior:

(a post Clyde McPhatter Dominoes). And THAT is the best song I've heard so far today.
CC, You have chosen three very good songs from a nice compilation. I like the Sufjan Stevens and Superchunk tracks too.
ReplyDeleteStay tuned for Sufjan Brian!
