Last Tuesday was St George's Day the day which commemorates the Patron Saint of England.
To commemorate this occasion the true patriots draped themselves in the flag of St George, filled themselves with Belgian lager and headed to the Cenotaph in London for a scrap.
It seems that they feel that their Englishness is being threatened. While trying to get some examples of this a journalist was informed by a lady that we're a coffee nation, not a tea nation anymore. It is truly the end of days
Starbucks, Costa and Cafe Nero are now under armed guard.
If you own any of the songs below it is clearly your patriotic duty to burn your copies of them as soon as possible.
Lightnin' Hopkins - Coffee House Blues
Otis Redding -Cigarettes and Coffee
Do you think they may have deliberately chosen Belgian lager to get pissed on in order to give a real life example of the deleterious effects of close association with Brussels?
ReplyDeleteAlternatively they could just be a bunch of brainless thugs I suppose.
The latter I suspect.
DeleteWonderful observations, CC.
ReplyDeleteHere's a couple more to add to the list from Edwyn Collins and James.

Cheers JC. Hope you are on the mend
DeleteI generally have tea in a coffee shop so I'm flying the flag, but which one? My Union Jack bunting acquired for the London 2012 Olympics will not get another outing this year for Paris 2024. Don't know about where you are but no one in our town would now hoist a Union Jack - different times and it seems we are now rudderless with no First Minister as of noon today.
ReplyDeleteYes - it is a bit like the curse - "May You Live in Interesting Times"!
DeleteFcking arseholes the lot of them. Embarrassed to actually have to share a country with them. Like Alyson I too drink tea in coffee shops but if teas becoming a new front line in the culture wars I may have to reconsider.
ReplyDeleteAnother reason to stick with coffee.
ReplyDeleteDitto Swiss Adam apart from the drinking tea in coffee shops bit! I plug my ears on 23rd April for good reason. Instant Coffee Baby by the Wave Pictures (they're English) is worth a listen not to mention Dylan's (he's American) glorious One More Cup Of Coffee.
