Streetcore

I had the great pleasure last week of meeting up with JC , the Vinyl Villian, for a  few drinks and a long overdue chatchup. Music, football, families and assorted nonsense were all duly discussed.

He had mentioned that he would be bringing me the CD of Rock Art and the X-Ray Style by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros to upgrade the burn that I featured here in early January Being the top bloke that he is he also threw in a copy of Streetcore the 3rd and final album by the band  which was released in October 2003 some nine months after the premature death of Joe at the age of 50.

The album received a generally positive critical reception and was seen by many as a return to form from Joe.

Allmusic wrote that the album sends Strummer into rock & roll heaven a roaring, laughing, snarling lion", calling the album "truly the finest, most cohesive work he did after London Calling.(they were clearly forgetting Combat Rock) whereas Mojo called Streetcore an amalgam of all that made Joe Strummer, the musician and the man, so great.

The section of the shelves containing Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros is now larger and considerably brighter so thanks again JC.

  1. JC really is a top fella isn't he? Little wonder we refer to him as the Blogfather. Splendidly heartwarming stuff.
