Deep down I always knew that Cry Me a River by Julie London would beat Kelly Hogan with Wild Mountain Berries and she duly did by 7 votes to 2. However, it was encouraging to note the positive feedback for Ms Hogan and that as Rol noted it was harder than folk thought it would be.
The scores on the doors are now River 3 Mountain 2
This week it is Northern Soul versus Southern Soul with two songs taken from compilations.
On the river front and representing the South we have the great O.V. Wright with Everybody Knows (The River Song) from Down and Out - The Sad Soul of the Black South.
I knew I had Love on a Mountain Top by Robert Knight somewhere and I finally tracked it down on The Best Northern Soul All- Nighter ... Ever!
Do I love you, my oh my
River Deep or Mountain High?
If Overton Vertis Wright does not win, it will be a travesty. River!
ReplyDeleteI like them both, but it is OV for me too
ReplyDeleteRobert Knight for me
ReplyDeleteO.V. Wright
ReplyDeleteFirst off, The Best Northern Soul All- Nighter... Ever! gets a lot of play in this household. The assembler of this comp didn't fool around. Chose the top song from Chuck Wood, Jackie Wilson, Kim Weston, the Isley Brothers, Curtis Mayfield, Gloria Jones and Judy Street. For me, Robert Knight isn't one of the brighter spots. Going with O.V. Wright.
ReplyDeleteThis is another tough one, but I'll go with Robert Knight, if only to counter George.
ReplyDeleteYes it's Robert Knight for me too as I have fond memories of that song from school days. I had no idea a the time that such songs became popular because of the whole Northern Soul scene. I'm a big fan now but fear I was born too late and in the wrong part of the country for such All-Nighters. Would have been right up my street.
ReplyDeleteOV for me.
ReplyDeleteThought this would be easy - one I knew well versus a first hearing - but I'm going with the outsider in O.V Wright
