The first post holiday RDMH post saw a slow start in votes followed by a veritable upsurge.
As a Weggie I am of course disappointed that Spinning Coin with Metranome River lost out 7-2 to Edinburgh's Motorcycle Boy with Big Rock Candy Mountain. That takes the running total to River 2 Mountain 2.
This week we focus on two female American vocalists with possibly the greatest voices of their respective eras.
We start back in the 50's with the great Julie London from Santa Rosa, California with the definitive version of the often covered Cry Me a River.
From the 50's we move to the 00's , 2000 to be precise , with Wild Mountain Berries a track from the album Beneath the Country Underdogfrom the equally great Atlanta born but Chicago based Kelly Hogan.
Two different areas, two different styles, two great songs and two great voices
Do I love you, my oh my
River Deep or Mountain High?
Kelly Hogan - Wild Mountain Berries
Julie for me!
ReplyDeleteKelly is actually Wisconsin based now (not that I'm stalking her, well not since the court intervened after she rejected my third proposal of marriage).Despite that I will remain loyal and vote for her, although Julie is excellent too
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you will find a legal loophole somehow
DeleteKelly Hogan
ReplyDeleteI thought you were stopping this series
ReplyDeleteFirst to five
DeleteJulie London gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteJulie London for me.
ReplyDeleteI still remember your Julie London calendar girl series and as one of the only people who visited all 12 of those posts I feel duty bound to give my vote to her, although I did like Kelly's song too.
ReplyDeleteI was expecting your vote in her favour Alyson!
DeleteMy pal plays guitar in Ms. Hogan’s band, but I’m drawn to Julie. You’re right, this is the definitive version of Cry Me a River. I do like Mari Wilson’s take as well. In summation, Julie gets my vote.
ReplyDeleteMuch harder than I thought it would be.
ReplyDeleteRiver.
As much as I like Kelly, it has to be River for me too
