She's A Modern Girl


The standout track on Burnt Offerings 28 is the cover by Camera Obscura of Modern Girl the smash hit single by Bellshill's finest Sheena Easton.
It couldn't feature yesterday as they have graced these pages before and the rules is the rules.

So instead you are getting it today . Plus it is probably illegal to feature the band without paying homage to the classic Lloyd, Are You Ready to be Heartbroken from their 2006 album Let's Get Out of this Country.

    It's all very well posting these indie bands (as good as Camera Obscura were), but where's the original? Don't tell me Sheena Easton isn't 'hip' enough to feature on these pages?

    (I'm feeling rather mischievous today for some unknown reason...)

      Yes nice cover I agree though perhaps only because of the female vocal. I've always been irked that the likes of Rod Stewart and Robert Palmer produced versions of this song. THEY are the guys who have all the luck ffs. It should be sung by people like me and you (no disrepect intended ha ha!) Ordinary Joes in other words.

    CC, are you suggesting a Sheena or Camera Obscura ICA? Upon release, Modern Girl did nothing here in America. After 9 to 5 (Morning Train) became a smash, however, Modern Girl got another go and went top 20. I have the song going in my head, but someone other than Sheena or Camera Obscura is doing it... but who? Driving me crazy.

    Yes, the girl from Bellshill did well (and became very chummy with Prince which could not have been anticipated at the outset) - Nice cover of Modern Girl.
