Boxer Beat

Today we feature two great world champion boxers who are still with us and two singers who sadly aren't.

The Panamanian boxer Roberto Duran Samaneigo is widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time although Scotland's Ken Buchanan very nearly beat him He went  by the nickname of  Manos de Piedra (Hands of Stone)
Here the late Chris Gaffney  former Hacienda Brother and one of Dave Alvin's Guilty Men covers Tom Russell's  song The Eyes of Roberto Duran.

On Sentimental Hygiene the great Warren Zevon celebrates another world champ Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini and in particular his 1984 bout with Bobby Chacon

And just in case any of you JoBoxers fans feel short changed here are the boys from the Christmas TOTP 1983

  1. Listened to an interview with Ken Buchanan on Radio Scotland a month or so ago and he spoke about how one below the belt punch from Duran still causes him pain to this day. Hands of stone right enough.
