Holiday Hiatus - Oasis

The last in the Holiday Hiatus series as we are winding our way back home today.
Like half the world I purchased the first two Oasis albums Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story) Morning Glory? and then nothing else by them.
And like half the world I haven't listened to them in ages.
Here is a track from each of them

Oasis - Cigarettes & Alcohol

Oasis - She's Electric

  1. 'She's Electric' is probably the weakest track on either of the first two LP's, but it's a towering masterpiece compared to some of the stuff that came later.

  2. I was given a copy of Be Here Now and free tickets to that tour...

Travis were really good in support.

  3. It could be worse, you could have purchased Bat Out Of Hell. Or anything by Supertramp. Or Genesis.

  4. Hope you enjoyed your hol in my neck of the woods. Still find it hard to believe that Oasis and their ilk were from around 20 years ago as still feels like "new" music to me.

  5. Okay this is where I get disowned but I never heard anything from Oasis that didn't make me scratch my head and wonder "What the heck am I missing?" One band that I just don't hear a redeeming note. Whiny drones who's egos are bigger than their bluster. Their punk just seems to be disgruntled drunk. And this will get me further ostracized I imagine but I've always and continue to love U2 who bring the passion, blast & melodrama and get away with it. Yea, I know. I know. Sorry my friends. But no on the Oasis. Just no. I do like the aforementioned Travis. They sweet.

  6. I was completely with Kevinpat for a while there. Then I heard myself yelling, "stop, stop!"

    1. I agree Brian. Can we forgive Kevinpat?

    2. Forgive me Fathers for I have sinned. I truly don't get the U2 hate. Seriously. Can we have a sober conversation? Why? I will admit at times lately they seem like a parody of themselves but.....???

    After that total mince

  8. the first two albums, and indeed almost all of the early b-sides to the singles, were actually very good albeit very particular to their time. It's the poorer later stuff that have made many folk harshly reassess things.

For what it's worth, I'll also defend a fair bit of U2. The early stuff was great to hear in the live setting and after an annoying period in the 80s, I will argue long into the night that 'Achtung Baby' is a cracking record.

  9. Kevinpat will always be forgiven. We are all sinners. I have many albums in my collection that would have you all casting stones. I even have some U2 that goes beyond the first two.
