The First Songs of 2023

Greetings from the other side.I hope that you all made it ok and that nobody fell by the wayside.

We watched Goodfellas, saw in the Bells and then went to bed.

To save any braincells unnecessarily being used up I've decided to feature some of the first songs I've listened to this year rather than anything more convoluted.

I've gone for stuff on the USB stick as it saves getting up every 20 minutes or so to change a record or 45 minutes or so to change a CD. All the choices are from albums from last year which have been  <ahem> acquired rather than bought. Some albums require a few listens prior to possibly purchasing.

First up is Americana singer Caitlin Rose with a song from CAZIMI her firt album since 2013. I have a couple of  her couple of earlier albums so I was interested to hear this one. My first thoughts are that it is a bit too mainstream for my tastes.

Bonnie Light Horesman on the other hand are excellent . A folk supergroup who were brought to my attention by our dear friend Ernie Goggins Thanks for this Ernie. Rolling Golden Holy is high on my list of required purchases.

Finally something from the latest album by The Boss,Only the Strong Survive a selection of Soul covers. Variously described as karaoke or a bit Meh. Rol sums it up neatly here. as do the comments. Not one that I'll be rushing out to buy but if I ever see it  cheap in a charity shop I will probably buy it for the sake of completeness.

Caitlin Rose - Modern Dancing

Bonny Light Horseman - Summer Dream

Bruce Springsteen - Hey, Western Union Guy

  1. I quite like the Caitlin Rose track although it doesn't sound much like her old stuff as you say

  2. Summer Dream is fast becoming an earworm. Thanks, as always, for the heads up.
I had no desire to ring in the new as it will, inevitably, only be as bad or even worse than last year. At the risk of sounding like a southern shandy-drinking socialist we will only have a Happy New Year when the cunts running this country are not only given their marching orders but have been out of power for at least two years (so fucked up is the UK right now - it'll take more than a spit and polish & a lick of paint).

  3. Whoaa! I need to hear more from that John Medd fella. There's a real deficit of that kind of shoutback these days - get him on Question Time and I might just start watching it again after 15 years
