Some Sunday Soul

Drew's recent posting of a couple of excellent Kim Weston numbers had me reaching for her Greatest Hits & Rare Classics CD
Drew lamented that Berry Gordy appeared to not know what to do with such a talent other than have her dueting with Marvin Gaye.
This could have perhaps been because, as alluded to in Stuart Cosgrove's Detroit 67 book, that Diana Ross saw her talent as a threat and used her sway over Gordy to ensure that she was marginalised.
Not that you could ever imagine Miss Ross doing such a thing!

A true talent and still going strong aged 76

More soul next Sunday

  2. There are some great Kim Weston tracks from Motown. "I'm Gonna Make It Up To You" is stellar Motown!! Check it out. Funny. After Kim left Motown she also did duet work with Johnny Nash, which is just as sweet. "Helpless" and "Love Me All the Way" are great tracks to feature for Sunday Soul. Also Gladys Knight tells a story about touring with Diana Ross/Supremes and when they started to get very favorable audience response Gladys got a call from Berry Gordy for them to come home. Gladys said she saw Diana Ross watching from behind a curtain as she took the call. Thanks for the Sunday Soul CC!!!! :))

@ kevinpat: Thanks for adding another entry to the Diana Ross' bad behaviour collection. ;-)

    1. Sorry. Gladys, the true lady, said she spoke to Ross later on in life, and got an apology and all is forgiven..... Still live those Supremes!

  4. I've been a Motown fan since I was a teenager but when I checked my media player I couldn't find ANY Kim Weston at all. It turns out I do own It Takes Two, but on ripping the particular Marvin Gaye CD it came from, none of the duetting artists had been credited.

Still, further action is obviously required on this front...
