Three songs today from the late 70's/early 80s which for those of us of a certain age surely was a purple patch in our musical education.
We start with this week's cover star Ian Dury and his band The Blockheads and the brilliant Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick a well deserved UK number 1 in January 1979.
I was going to say that The Fall never had much success in the singles charts. However, they charted 14 times but reached no higher than number 30 with There's a Ghost in My House. In another and better world Totally Wired would surely have been a top 10 hit.
Searching for the Young Soul Rebels criminally was not a number one album for Dexy's Midnight Runners in 1988 although Geno hit the top of the Singles chart. Tell My When My Light Turn Green was not released as a single but could never be accused of being an album filler.
