Sweetheart of the Rodeo

There are times when  I have considered Sweetheart of the Rodeo by The Byrds to be my all time favourite album. Certainly it has never been out the Top 10 since I first discovered it.

It was the 6th album by the band and was released in August 1968. I was vaguely familiar with the bands music mainly through the Dylan covers. However it was not until the turn of the century when I became immersed in Americana and discovered Gram Parsons that the album first crossed my radar. I think that is the only album by the band on which he appeared.

When I bought it  (probably in the very early '00s) it was the Edsel Records CD version released by Demon Records in 1987.

Last week I visited Big Blue the Shop/HQ of Last Night From Glasgow to pick up some records I was due. While browsing I came across a vinyl copy from the  Columbia label released in 2017.It was an absolute no-brainer to add it to the pile.

It will still sound fantastic One Hundred Years from Now
