2024 Charity Shop Purchases in Numbers

As the year draws to a close I thought I should re-visit the Blog's raison d'etre  and give you some stats on this years Charity Shop purchases.

All in all there were 72 charity shop purchases this year down from 88 in 2023. The majority were kept with a few returned to charity or given to friends. There were 67 CDs, 3 LPs and 2 CD singles.

The vast majority of the purchases were in the first six months of the year.

Purchases were made in 20 different locations including one in England (Newcastle) and 4 in the Greater Glasgow area.

There were 5 new locations - Bridge of Allan, Helensburgh, Newcastle, Castle Douglas and Thornhill.

Newton Stewart saw the most purchases 10 with 8 apiece from Troon, Clarkston and St Andrews.

8 were by Various artists. 5 by Leonard Cohen, 3 by Frightened Rabbit, 2 by 4 artists and 47 single albums by other artists.

Let's see what next year brings.

Here are tracks from 3 of them at random

The Housemartins -Flag Day

Frankie Miller - Caledonia

Kim Richey - Can't Find the Words

  1. So, down from last year, is that part of a worrying trend? Do you have the numbers for 2022, 2021..? Are the pickings going to be slimmer next year?

    1. George is right. For statistical purposes two years is not enough to detect any meaningful patterns. I look forward to your paper at the end of 2032.

Still think you should have doubled your English tally by getting that album with the Jersey cow in the cover.

  2. There are certainly fewer CDs in the shops now and even fewer interesting ones

  3. This is the best kind of year end countdown... though I have to sadly agree with your comment above.
