They've taken their time but the Africans are finally coming.
One or two have been here for a while such as South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria but recently visitors have been more regular. I blame Ernie
I'm not attempting to emulate the detail from his Ernie's African Odyssey as I don't have the knowledge and material that he has. Where possible I will try to source some different music and this was relatively easy for Kenya.
I'm kicking off with Them Mushrooms who play mostly Chakacha , some Benga and also some reggae. The Swahili 1982 song Jambo Bwana is their best known number. (don't ask me what all that means).
Ayub Ogada who died in 2019 is a singer whose preferred instrument was the nyatiti.
George Ramogi (1945–1997) was a Kenyan musician, who empowered the traditional luo benga and rumba genre of music.
Another African country next and then it gets somewhat trickier.
The George Ramogi track is bound for vol. 231.
