2026 Charity Shop Purchases #2 - Various Artists - Start Your Own Country
Today I give you a fine example of a two birds with one stone scenario. Yes, I am featuring a recent Charity Shop purchase and yes given it is Sunday I am also featuring an Americana compilation.
See what I did there? I'm pretty pleased with myself.
From 2005 Start Your Own Country is part of the New Sounds of the Old West series from London's Loose Records.
By 2005 I had expanded my musical horizons to focus on more that just Americana and consequently I only recognise two of the 20 artists on the CD - Justin Rutledge and Jason Molina
There is also an argument (and one I subscribe to) that Americana music had peaked by then. I feel that this CD provides some proof of this.
Too Sober to Sleep by Justin Rutledge & the Junction Forty is far and away the highlight of the compilation. It is taken from the album No Never Alone which I have and I saw him play around then. The other chosen tracks just about pass muster..I shall spare you the cover of Straight to Hell
I can understand why it ended up in a Charity Shop. Who knows, it may well end up there again.

When you take charity shop purchase back do you take them to the same one or spread the love by taking them elsewhere?
ReplyDeleteThey go in the charity bag which is dropped off somewhere locally in due course.
DeleteGood to have these insights for those of us who frequent charity shops in an amateur capacity.
DeleteMr SDS has this dilemma sometimes too - he always tries to take things back to a shop he doesn't go into very often for fear of only buying it back again some time later if it was a more regular haunt...
