I was in the town centre shopping mall in East Kilbride over the weekend.
I popped into HMV, the only shop that sells records, for a potter. It is always entertaining to gawp at the prices. The minimum price for a vinyl album appears to be in the region of £29.99 with many single albums in the £30/£40 region.
The CD prices were much more realistic and I was pleased to see a copy of Tigers Blood the sixth studio album by Waxahatchee on the Anti- label for £6.99. It was quickly snapped up even although I had a downloaded copy. It is always much better to have something physically tangible to hold and the sound quality is probably better.
She first crossed my radar in 2015 when a track on a Mojo compilation had me picking up her third album Ivy Tripp. I've subsequently picked up 2020's Saint Cloud and her 2022 collaboration with Jess Williamson - I Walked With You a Ways under the name Plains.
I'm glad to say that this one maintains the usual high standard.
A wonderful record and artist. Very nearly the No Badger album of the year. Swc.
ReplyDeleteI just get depressed whenever I step into HMV these days, at how little music they actually sell anymore.
ReplyDeleteThat's true. It's almost like an afterthought.
DeleteThe state of vinyl is depressing. Prices too high and quality a crapshoot. These days, I think I’m buying CDs around 2-1 over the “superior” format. - Brian
