If you have a couple of days to spare and are looking for something to do you could do worse than to pop over to Ernie's place and type Ghana into the search function. The songs will keep you busy for days.
I usually try to avoid stepping on Ernie's toes when it comes to African countries but I had neither the time nor the inclination to check whether any of these artists featured there feature here.I suspect some may have but it will do no harm to hear more from them.
I discovered that Ed Sheeran has the Ghanaian flag tattooed on his wrist. That very nearly stopped me going any further.
In no particular order lets kick off with Wendy Shay who in March 2021 was among the top 30 Most Influential Women in Music according to the Ghanaian 3Music Awards. Here she is with Too Late.
Next up is Amakye Dede a high life musician i.e music characterised by melodic brass instruments, multiple guitars and rhythmic percussion. Here he is joined by Apollo Kings International with the song Asem to Mea Kabi Mame.
Ben Brako is another high life musician who rose to prominence in the mid to late 80s. His song today is Moko Mekrom.
We've managed to make some room for Paapa Yankson & the Christian Singers with Gye Me Oo.
Last, but not least,we conclude with some royalty courtesy of King Ayisoba a traditional musician known for his unique style of music alongside the kologo a traditional 2- stringed lute from Northern Ghana. The song is I Want to See You My Father
Apologies for the delay in this one. The enormity of the artists available had me avoiding diving in for too long.
Next time round it will be yet another African country.
Amakye Dede (ft Apollo Kings International) - Asem to Mea Kabi Mame
