I'm not religious and it is a long time since I lifted a bible. This might explain why I'm a day late for the Resurrection. Still at least we still get a public holiday.
It got me thinking though of Resurrection songs and I appear to have more than I thought.
Let's start with the most obvious one by The Stone Roses which lends its name to this Post's title.
The second one that most folk would maybe come up with is Resurrection Shuffle by Ashton, Gardner & Dyke.
Meanwhile the Drive-By Truckers are Awaiting Resurrection.
Iron and Wine are more interested in a Resurrection Fern.
Finally The Hold Steady tell us How a Resurrection Really Feels
The Stone Roses - I Am The Resurrection
Ashton, Gardner & Dyke - Resurrection Shuffle
Drive- By Truckers - Awaiting Resurrection

What is a resurrection fern?

DeleteExcellent post
ReplyDeleteAlways used to put that Roses track on the pub jukebox, partly because it's excellent and partly because it was good value for a credit, going on for over eight minutes!
ReplyDeleteGood to see the Hold Steady included.
ReplyDeleteMention of Resurrection Shuffle gives me another chance (No not your old AGD story again Spence. Please!) to trot out my anecdote of when I saw Ashton, Gardner and Dyke support Deep Purple at Sheff City Hall in the early 70s. At that time, given half a chance audiences could be quite hostile to opening acts whilst waiting for their 'heroes' to take the stage and on this night Tony Ashton rubbed up the crowd the wrong way and the atmosphere became pretty toxic. He was being a bit of a knob though and imho got what he deserved. Resurrection Shuffle is a great track - can't say I remember any of their other songs tho'.
