A couple of weeks ago Ernie very kindly brought the eponymous album Railcard here on Slumberland Records to my attention.
It is a very pleasant listen with plenty of jingle jangle included. About 30 seconds in I thought that this one would interest Brian. I sent a message to him saying that this would be right up his street if he did not already have it.
It was no great surprise when he replied that he did indeed have it. I would have been more surprised if he hadn't.
He also gave me a rundown on some of the music that he was currently enjoying. One such band was Pugwash a power pop act from Dublin who have been going strong since 1999. The track below is taken from their 2015 album Play This Intimately (As If Among Friends). A band I would definitely go and see.
Another band that he namechecked was Would- Be- Goods a UK band fronted by Jessica Griffen. They have recently released an album on Skep Wax called Tears Before Bedtime. If you like your music slightly twee this is the one for you.
Thanks for widening my horizons Ernie and Brian
So much music so little time, money and space!

The pleasure is mine CC.
ReplyDeleteI'm familiar with Pugwash but mainly because of the lead man's involvement in the Duckworth-Lewis Method, the cricket themed pop funsters with Neil Hannon.
All this bands are new to me and I enjoyed much. Thanks to you sharing the recommendations from our trusted friends , CC
ReplyDeleteI'm just the middle man Walter!
DeleteI love Pugwash. These days frontman Thomas Walsh (one half of Duckworth Lewis) tends to play solo but I did see the full band in London many moons ago.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, CC. Another fine visit to Charity Chic Music. Nice batch of songs you have there. Martin, your taste is impeccable, but you don’t need me to tell you that. Take care. - Brian
ReplyDeleteMention of the Would-Be-Goods allows me to trot out my usual comment about how I came to buy a couple of their earlier albs - Brief Lives and The Camera Loves Me - in the mistaken belief that they were the Irish band from Dublin, The Would Bes championed by John Peel circa 1990. That's it! Not a great anecdote admittedly and the sort of thing David Mitchell might come up with at a dinner party apparently.
ReplyDeleteLike me some Would Be’s and Would-Be Goods. - Brian
