I was listening to the Wilco album Cousin the other day and it got me thinking about Cousin Songs.
The obvious one of course is from the Undertones but I was pleased to see that I had a good few others.
Bobby Womack for instance sings about his Cousin Henry whereas Whiteout (two songs in a week!) opt for Cousin Jane.
Kirsty MacCall has an Irish Cousin with Culture not surprisingly having a Cousin Rude Boy.
Do you have a Perfect Cousin?

Pleased to see a Mandatory Reggae Cousin included.
ReplyDeletePJ Harvey has a superb song from her grunge phase called 'Naked Cousin'. Only ever recorded for a Peel Session and later included on a film soundtrack. But she did perform it on the BBC one time.

Oh, I remember that, JC - first time I'd ever heard of or seen her - brilliant, unforgettable performance.
DeleteI do have a lovely cousin whom I barely saw or knew as a child due to their complex home life circumstances, but we reconnected later and it's been great. We have a lot of attitudes and interests in common, so much so she could have been my sister. And now - well, he could have been my brother!
ReplyDeleteSome tremendous songs there - not least Culture. Was also going to mention PJ Harvey's Naked Cousin but JC got in first. The Troggs also had a Cousin Jane albeit very different and not entirely uninfluenced by the Stones' Lady Jane! Steely Dan had a Cousin Dupree and OK off subject I know, I remember there was a French film from the 70s called Cousin, Cousine.
