Hello Stranger from
Julia Holter's album
Loud City Song appears on the
Best of 2013 compilation I featured the other day.
This prompted me to give her 2015 album
Have You in My Wilderness another listen.
I bought it that year with my Christmas money alongside
Gwenno's Y Dydd Olaf and
LoneLady's Hinterland and to me it is the weakest of the three.
It has a couple of good tracks such as the one below but so far it has failed to ignite a spark.
Maybe after a few more listens or perhaps maybe not.
I know that many of my blogging colleagues will disagree as it featured in many best of the year lists for 2015
Julia Holter - Hello Stranger
Julia Holter - Sea Calls Me Home
Big thumbs down for track one from both of us. My partner staring off into space with the second track, but I quite like it
ReplyDeleteI realise that Julia Holter is a well respected artist, but I'm afraid that the title of this post speaks for me too. It's about time for some new stuff from Gwenno and Lonelady though.
ReplyDeleteBogging colleagues. That's no way to talk about your mates
ReplyDeleteOops - now corrected!
DeleteProbably only those with a West Coast of Scotland connection would have picked that up
Not at all bad but, as you say, no Gwenno.
ReplyDeleteI kinda like Holter's stuff, but I have to be in the mood for it. And I'm not in the mood for it that often.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this as well, CC. Had a few goes at getting into it but never quite managed to do so
