I suspect that I may well be taken to task in certain quarters but the only album I own by indie favourites
Pavement is
Terror Twilight their fifth and final album from 1999 on
Domino Records.
I have nothing by
Stephen Malkmus either nor have I knowingly heard any of his stuff.
I have given
Slanted and Enchanted a cursory listen but whereas it features in numerous best of lists it didn't do much for me I'm afraid.
Perhaps it is due another listen given that Terror Twilight is somewhat better that I remembered.
Feel free to enlighten me.
Pavement - Spit on a Stranger
Pavement - Major Leagues
Where's Erik when we need him?!
ReplyDeleteI don't dislike Pavement, but can only take them in small-ish doses. A bit like The Fall, really.
ReplyDeleteOh Robster, you can never have enough Fall albums.
DeletePaverment are alright, just not as brilliant as everyone tries to tell us.
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly!
DeleteMalkmus' solo records have a few highlights too but how many do you really need?
ReplyDeleteThe general consensus and one which I agree with appears to be that Pavement are ok but nothing special. I' m sure Erik would disagree and yes C he was in my thoughts as I typed the post!
ReplyDeleteConsider yourself taken to task... but not as much as you might expect. Malkmus' first solo album was fantastic, by the way, but he got real jammy after that. I keep buying them but haven't been blown away for a long time.
ReplyDeleteThen again their 'Box Elder' will remain one of my all time favourite songs ever, which means they must be somewhat special ....
