Little and Large # 8

1940's novelty Country and 1950's Rock'n'Roll for you today.

You don't get any more little than Little Jimmy Dickens who was only 150 cm or 4 feet 11 inches in old money.
He had a long career from 1936 to 1994, dying on the 2nd of January 1995 at the ripe old age of 94. Famous for his novelty songs of which this is one. Apologies.

Jiles Perry "JP" Richardson Jr sadly did not reach 94. Better known as The Big Bopper he died aged 28 on the 3rd of February 1959 in the plane crash that also took the lives of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the pilot Roger Peterson.
Commemorated by Don McLean as The Day the Music Died

Little Jimmy Dickens - Take An Old Cold 'Tater (And Wait)

The Big Bopper - Chantilly Lace

* Just noticed that this is my 2000th post.
Thanks to all of you who have dropped by and in particular those of you who have taken the time to comment.
That's what keeps me going

  1. 2000 posts is a great achievement, well done. It would be nice to see a bit more jazz on these pages, though, that genre has been very badly served here!

    1. Be careful what you wish for.
Mrs CC has an impressive jazz section on the shelves

    2. would it be rude to suggest that "impressive" and "jazz" are two words that don't belong together?

    3. 200 posts? Congratulations CC, a mighty achievement. I do my best to keep the jazz flag flying. Good to hear that Mrs CC is also a fan of the genre - time for a guest posting from her perhaps?

Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny! (a one-liner I first heard about 40 years ago. Apologies)

  3. Congrats CC. 2000 posts is a fine achievement indeed. You shouldn't ever need to resort to jazz...

  4. Wow, 2000 posts, Stevie: that's more than impressive in my books, it is unbelievable!

I vote for less Jazz, more of the Zimbabwe stuff though!

  6. Quite the milestone, CC. And much of it continuing to prove that I know next to nothing about country music compared to folks in the UK despite my playing in a country band for nearly 2 years!
