Some Soul with Your Coffee Sir?

Photo from Tripadviser

There I was in the Millbrae Hill Café in Glasgow's Battlefield area nursing a coffee and ruminating as to how a seemingly innocuous  flattish tyre managed to open up a Pandora's Box of car defects and an associated huge hole in my wallet.
Gradually through the gloom I became aware of the music playing gently in the background which was some rather good soul music.
When I went to pay the chap (I refuse to use the term barista) I complimented him on his choice of music and on featuring Sharon Jones. He advised that it was a Spotify Soul playlist and seemed impressed with my  powers of observation.

Now here's the thing. It is a couple of days later and I have absolutely no recollection as to what song it was!
I know that it was not one of these two from the Daptone Gold compilation but let's face it anything by the late, great Miss Jones is surely worth a few minutes of your time.

  1. Spooky - just yesterday I was watching Sharon Jones Live From Daryl's House duetting with Daryl on Hall and Oates' "Do What You Want, Be What You Are". Worth a look.

  2. Hell of a way to start the day. Big fan. We've lost a couple of these soul revivalists recently, including Charles Bradley. We are so fortunate these late bloomers were able to get their music out there.

  3. 'How Long Do I Have To Wait' was the first song I ever heard by them (love it) and I thought it was from the '60s/'70s, I remember being so surprised when I found out it wasn't!
    Yes, Sharon sadly missed.
So glad too that you refuse to use the word 'barista'. What's that all about?!

  4. Really like the sound of this lady - Thanks for highlighting her talents.

As for the barista thing, yes, very annoying but a feature of our high streets and shopping centres nowadays. With a cup of coffee around £4 a pop, they can be afforded fancy titles.

  5. Was your track 100 days, 100 Nights by any chance? Seem to have heard that track played 'in public' a few times. As for baristas, don't get me started. Can't get used to being asked for my order when I'm still 5th in the queue - don't they realise how destabilising that is for oldies?

  6. The fact I don't drink coffee means I haven't a clue what you're alll wittering on about....I think that might be a good thing going by the derogratory stuff being said.
