Out of Season

With today's offering I think that is the holiday charity CD purchases just about exhausted.

From 2002 Beth Gibbons of Portishead fame teams up with former Talk Talk bassist Paul Webb (aka Rustin Man) to come up with Out of Season described as a folk album with jazz leanings.

I'd never heard it before and found it quite haunting if not quietly devastating (Uncut), bewitching (Esquire) or among the best albums ever made (Mojo)
Mrs CC on the other hand found it depressing

  1. Really good to hear these again, 'Funny Time of Year' is particularly excellent, I must dig out the album. Have you heard anything by Geoff Barrow's other band, Beak? (Usually written BEAK> for some reason) Well worth looking out for.

  2. I've got a Beak> album which I remember being pretty good.

  3. I was going to write that Mrs CC was right, and add that this is a right load of old nonsense. And that for MOJO to describe this as one of the best albums ever is beyond idiotic. Then I listened to Funny Time of Year.......

  4. Quietly devastating and bewitching aren't far off the mark...Haunting, definitely! Also proof that it wasn't just Mark Hollis that had a hand in the direction Talk Talk took.

  5. I thought Mysteries was incredible, but the rest of the album didn't really live up to that.
