Blind Man's Zoo

Mrs CC and I are both Natalie Merchant fans and have much of her solo material.
Somewhat strangely, however, there is currently only one 10,000 Maniacs album gracing the CCM shelves and that is their fourth studio album from 1989 Blind Man's Zoo.
I was minded to play this as my room mate at work was playing them and asked me if I had ever heard of them. He was unaware who their lead singer was or that they came from Boston so I enjoyed a bit of oneupmanship.

My copy contains lyrics in German, French, Spanish and Italian as well as English.
So I give you Eat For Two/Essen Fur Zwei/Mange Pour Deux/ComePor Dos/Mangiare Per Due and
Trouble Me/Lad Mir Kummer Auf/Derange-Moi/Preocupame/Tormentami

No Portuguese George sorry

  1. CC, Seek out 'In My Tribe' as soon as possible. Thirty seconds into "What's the Matter Here?" you're going to be hooked.

  2. Also the early stuff of theirs is a 'must', CC! 'Secrets Of The I Ching', 'The Wishing Chair', both are fantastic records throughout!!

But didn't they hail from New York?

    1. You are of course correct Dirk they are from Jamestown New York so you have trumped me in the oneupmanship stakes!

  3. This was the first 10,000 Maniacs record I bought. Eat For Two remains one of my all-time faves of theirs. But my recommendation has to be this: http://isthis-thelife.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/20-albums-to-take-to-my-grave-12-10000.html

  5. In My Tribe is the one for me, with The Wishing Chair a close second.

  6. A terrific band, spellbinding live. I was lucky enough to catch them a couple of times in the 'In My Tribe'/'Blind Man's Zoo' era, but all those Merchant period LP's are well worth checking out.

  7. Oneupmanship is not something I would recognise in myself but on this occasion....a mate of mine played me his copy of Human Conflict Number Five, this was very early 80s. I hadn't heard of them before but I was hooked there and then. That e.p is hard to come by but the CD Hope Chest: The Fredonia Recordings 1982-1983 is easy to get. They were a great band but for me those first half dozen tracks are amongst their best. Saw them once at Sheffield's Octagon when Natalie handed out short poems scribbled on scraps of paper to the audience. Sadly, I missed out.
