Green on Red

Dan and Chuck
Green on Red were the original desert noir band emerging out of Tuscon, Arizona.
The head honchos were Dan Stuart and Chuck Prophet
They released some great records in the 80s and early 90s including Gas Food Lodging, No Free Lunch and The Little Things in Life.
It all got too much for Stuart and he quit the music scene around 1995.
However as is the way they reformed their most famous line up in 2005 and I had the honour of seeing them at King Tuts on 4th September 2006.
Gold in the Graveyard is track one from 1991's The Little Things in Life
My copy of the fabulous cover of Willie Nelson's  (Gee Ain't it Funny How) Time Slips Away from No Free Lunch is a bit crackly and has a small jump but in this particular case I feel that this enhances the song - it is just superb so you are getting it warts and all.
Luca has shared one of their tracks previously so I know that there is at least one fellow fan out there!

  2. Another great choice Mr CC.

Not boasting or nuthin, but I saw Green on Red at King Tut's Wah Wah Hut back in November 1992 with support act Miracle Legion - one of my favourite alt-rock-bands-known-only-to-listeners-to-the-Peel-Show (check out their song "Snacks & Candy" if it's still on Youtube).

To this day, my chums and I rave about that show. One of the top 5 gigs of all time. I got to hear "Zombie For Love" live with Dan Stuart and Chuck Prophet standing less than 20 feet away from me - how cool is that?!?!?

  3. When I was a kid I had cassettes of No Fee Lunch and Gas and Lodging...in fact I bought them at the counter like they weren't even regular stock. The tapes were black...the fold out sleeves seemed Xeroxed...the whole thing was like a secret.

Might as well have been because nobody else I knew wanted to listen to them...fools.

  4. I got Here Come The Snakes which I thought was great and the 10" live album and possibly one other. Good band. Chuck prophet's solo lps are worth checking out too
